Senate Bill S. 1391: To Amend the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976

This bill, S. 1391, was introduced on July 13,
2005 by Senator Frank Lautenberg
(D-NJ) to amend the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976. Its purpose is
to reduce the exposure of children, workers, and consumers to toxic chemical
substances. S. 1391 would force chemical manufacturers to provide
health and safety information on chemicals used in consumer products, like baby
bottles and food wrapping, instead of presuming a substance is safe until proven
dangerous.

(D-CA) to amend the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976. Its purpose is
to reduce the exposure of children, workers, and consumers to toxic chemical
substances.
H.R. 4308 is the House equivalent of S. 1391.

Released in June 2005, this GAO report concluded that the EPA could be far
more effective
than it is in assessing the risks posed by chemicals that have not yet been
