INTRODUCTION BY HIMMLER

It was not by chance that “Das Schwarze Korps”, the magazine of Adolf Hitler’s SS, published a series of essays on “The Samurai: Knights of the Reich in Honor and Fidelity”. The laws that govern a society’s growth apply for all, just like the laws according to which a society decays. It is good for us as constantly learning beings to examine the lives of other peoples.

We want to remind ourselves of things long forgotten with this short history of the samurai: of the fact that this society in the Far East had, already, in early times, the same laws of honor that our fathers had in their erstwhile, too soon destroyed past, and the realization that it is mostly minorities of the highest worth that give a people what seems to be eternal life. May this be the purpose of this special edition, and, in the same spirit, may many, especially our SS-men, read this little book.
